I suggest we share transport for this trip to the Tilberthwaite area of the Lake District. We will meet in the public car park in Coniston village at 9.45 am, then drive in convoy to our destination at Hodge Close. It may be sensible to bring a packed lunch as we will be some walking distance from a pub or cafe.

Once at Hodge Close we can walk down to Cathedral Quarry which is quite a spectacle
if you have never seen it before. The walk down is about a mile of pleasant walking through woodland and old slate workings. Whilst in the general area of Cathedral Quarry you can also visit an ancient footbridge set in stunning mountain scenery. This is the nearest point to a pub for those seeking refreshments. Having taken pictures in this area we will then return to Hodge Close to explore the very deep flooded quarry with it’s two huge arches through to a second quarry. Near by
are a number of ponds and a smallish lake which are great for nature and landscape photography.

I have personally photographed Gold Ringed Dragonflies, Black Darters, and Green Tiger Beetles in the area around the lake. Just give some thought to the location it is quite rugged, strong footwear and a waterproof, just in case! This trip will be weather dependant and will be subject to postponement to another date if the weather is bad.

If you wish to discuss it with me please feel free to ring me on 01524 36124 or email me at mikeandsueatkinson@hotmail.co.uk.
