Annual Projected Image Competition

This week are the results of our projected image competition. This is our main projected image competition of the year, the sister to the annual print competition, and aims to showcase some of the very best of the society’s work.

We are joined once again by Diane Owen FRPS who will judge the entries. The points awarded from this will go towards our annual prize giving.

Many members will remember Diane from her talk she gave the society not so long ago and I have to say that her artwork is well worth visiting her website to view.

We hold a number of competitions throughout the year. While we may not always agree with everything our guest judges say, we do agree that these competitions are an excellent way to focus our efforts and improve our photography.

Digital Projection Battle with Morecambe Camera Club

After last week’s excitement we’re back at the usual time and place for this week’s meeting.

This week we shall be playing host to our colleagues from Morecambe Camera Club for an interclub battle of projected images. Each club will present a selection of some of their best images to be pitted against each other. As well as being a friendly competition this evening serves as a good way to meet our fellow photographers from Morecambe.

Our judge for the competition will be Ken Geddes LRPS from Ribblesdale Camera Club.

Lancaster narrowly misses victory in the South Lakeland Knockout Competition

As you know last night was the South Lakeland Knockout Competition which this year was excellently hosted by our collegues in Holme & District Photographic Society.

Lancaster reached the final and was just pipped to the post by some excellent images from Kendal Photographic Society.

Well done to everyone who had pictures in the competition; I feel that for such a small club we put on an excellent fight and we should be justly proud of the quality of our work.

This week we’ve got a change from our normal meeting because we shall be guests of Holme & District Photographic Society.

Holme is playing host to the “South Lakeland Knockout Competition”.

This is an exciting interclub knockout competition where societies battle it out against each other with a portfolio of five colour prints, five monochrome prints and five projected images each. Each society provides two judges who will score the other societies images.

The competition takes place on Tuesday evening, 7:30pm prompt at

Burton Memorial Hall
Burton-in-Kendal
LA6 1NA

This year the clubs taking part will be:

Because of the competition there’s no meeting this Wednesday, the next meeting in Lancaster will be on the 23rd of February.

I hope to see as many of you as possible, stay tuned for results and I’ll get them on the site as soon as I hear them.

Projected Image Portfolio Night

As has become our custom on nights like this we’ll be splitting our meeting into two halves.

The first half will be the third of our portfolio nights of the year.

We’ll be holding a group discussion to review the projected images portfolio from the Lancashire & Cheshire Photographic Union (L&CPU)

These portfolios are made up of images taken from across the many photographic societies that make up the L&CPU and are a good way of seeing what work is currently taking place across the region.

For the second half of the evening everyone is encouraged to bring in an image or other bit of photographic work (either print or digital file) to show people and discuss.

Competition Deadline …

This week is also the deadline for entries for our Annual Projected Images competition!

Members may submit up to:

  • 2 projected images in colour
  • 2 projected images in monochrome

New images, or entries from the 3 previous monthly competitions may be submitted, either in colour or mono.

The full rules and details can be found on our Competition Rules page.

Annual Print Competition

This week is result of our annual print competition. This is our main print competition of the year and aims to showcase some of the very best of the society’s work. We are joined once again by Barry Colquhoun FRPS, FBIPP, DPAGB who will judge the entries. The points awarded from this will go towards our annual prize giving.

We hold a number of competitions throughout the year.  While we may not always agree with everything our guest judges say, we do agree that these competitions are an excellent way to focus our efforts and improve our photography.

A number of people have asked me about the the results of the recent competitions and these shall go on the site sometime over the next week.
