We’ll be holding another lively group discussion to review the Colour portfolio from the Lancashire & Cheshire Photographic Union (L&CPU)

These portfolios are made up of images taken from across the many photographic societies that make up the L&CPU and are a good way of seeing what work is currently taking place across the region.

Take part in our Quick Fire Judging Panel

Every portfolio is the result of a panel of judges reviewing each image at speed. Often only a few seconds per image. The nature of this has inspired many a debate within the club as to what makes a “good image”; is it something impactful and immediate or something more subtle that takes time to grow in your mind?

Find out yourself by taking part in our quick fire mock judging panel and see how your scores compare with the L&CPU judges!

After the main portfolio of the evening we hope to leave some time for a another chance for people to share and discuss their images.

Please bring in a set of images (maximum of four) to share and talk about with the group. These don’t have to be your best work but just something you’re happy to share and talk about.

Previously… Nature and illustrative Portfolio

For many years Syd Cumbus has provided a brief review of the week’s meeting to the Lancaster Guardian for their Social Scene column. We’re now very happy to be able to also present these round ups on the website.

The Lancashire & Cheshire Photographic Union (L&CPU) portfolio of documentary and nature prints was presented to members by Vic Crumley and Christian Cable.

The L.&CPU represents all photographic societies within the two counties. Wigan 10 , Warrington, Chorley, Poulton-le-Fylde, Southport and Bolton provided some of the more spectacular images.

Part one consisted of 30 prints in both colour and monochrome with images of sport, portraiture, architectural interiors and cityscapes. Part two was mostly colour and offered superb images of natural history including – an eagle in flight, a kestrel in flight, fish, butterflies, insects, otters and turtles.

Each print was discussed by members and the general opinion was that the nature section had superior photographs.

Nature and illustrative Portfolio and Image Critique

This week is the final of our portfolio nights of the year.

Image Critique

As well as discussing the images from the portfolio we’ll also be talking about our own images. If you’ve made any images based on our lectures or How To Evenings then this is the perfect time to share. Bring in a couple of images you are either willing to talk about or show to the group as part of a group critique!
