On Monday evening we were joined by the hugely talented photographer, Marianthi Lainas. Her rich portfolio of work has a strong, personal signature. Her time with the Society promised to be a highlight of the current season of speakers and she did not disappoint.
Her thoughtful images of the ever changing shorelines on the Wirral, the Hebridean islands of Harris and Lewis, Iceland and Greenland brimmed with style, pastel colours and peaceful, painterly sophistication. Her evangelic enthusiasm for an approach to photography guided not by what others do but by what we are told to do by our unique emotional responses to the places and subjects we photograph was captivating.
The enthusiastic engagement of our members with Marianthi and her work both during refreshments and afterwards conveyed the strong impression she made on all present.
