The presentation by the award winning photographer, Stephen McNally exceeded our already high expectations and provided a fitting conclusion to our 2018/19 season of speakers.
Stephen’s presentation brimmed with generous insights into his very individual and experimental approach to photography, his mastery of composition and expertise in both digital and film photography. The starkly contrasting nature of his colour and mono images intrigued and surprised his audience. The colour images of Liverpool were painterly, in a ‘cubist’ style that excited with their vibrant originality and visual noise. The mono, images executed in a more familiar minimalist style, conveying a powerful but quite different sense of silent peacefulness.
The enthusiastic engagement of our members throughout the evening conveyed the strong impression Stephen’s words and images made on each and everyone of them. It would be good to have Stephen visit us again and in this respect we will follow up his offer of a tutored Sunday shoot during the summer season.
