In the light of rapidly changing advice and the committee’s concern for your well being, the position we have taken in respect of Monday evening’s meeting has changed.
I have talked with Stephen Dodd and concluded that it is in everyones’ interest to postpone his presentation and seek to programme his visit to Lancaster into next season’s programme.
We are now unlikely to gather together this season and with this in mind the committee is taking steps to stay in touch, and keep you safely involved in Society activities. Monday is the programmed date for submitting images for competition 6, which is an open digital competition. Competition 6 will still go ahead, but we'll ask for entries to be sent by email instead of on a USB stick. We'll need a few days to get set up, so please hold onto your entries for the moment. We will email guidelines to you early next week. These will seek to ensure that everyone makes their email submission in the same, correct way. The entry date will be put back to let everyone get prepared, and we'll notify you of this in the email. We will repeat this process for competition 7 which will also be an open digital competition. We have contacted the judges and will proceed on the basis that they will judge ‘at distance’ and forward their scores and comments by email. We will then circulate this information to members and showcase on our Website in the usual way.
We will also make contact in the next couple of weeks to inform you about a new initiative that will provide you with an opportunity to participate in a handful of shared photographic challenges with other members and maintain contact by email.
Finally, we all have a responsibility at this time to think of others and in this respect please let me know if you contract the virus and may have been in a position to transmit this to others during a visit to Cameron House. I will then provide our friends in Positive Futures with this important information.
Reg Haslam, Outreach Secretary.
You should all now have received our email telling you that the meeting scheduled for Monday March 16 has been CANCELLED. The committee now think it likely that there will be no more club meetings now until the next season starts in September.
However, it's been decided that the final two competitions for this season WILL GO AHEAD. Instead of you handing in your entries on USB sticks, we'll ask you to submit them by email or by WeTransfer. The judges will score the images at home and send us the scores, which we'll publish on the website and by email. It will take us a few days to get things organised so we can handle this efficiently, and to write guidelines for you. Please HOLD ON TO YOUR COMPETITION 6 ENTRIES FOR NOW, and DON'T email them in to anyone or they'll risk ggetting lost. We'll be setting up a specific new email address for you to use instead of using members' personal addresses. A few USB sticks have come in and they will be entered, but PLEASE DO NOT SEND IN ANY MORE USB STICKS. The deadline for COMPETITION 6 was to be Monday 16th, but we'll push that back to let you have plenty of time to prepare. Watch your email for full instructions in the next few days.
COMPETITION 7 was to have been for prints, but we'll change that now to make it for digital images only. So please DO NOT DO ANYTHING WITH YOUR ENTRIES FOR THE MOMENT, and watch for instructions by email early next week.
