25 September 2017 - Club Night

An opportunity to ‘Pick and Mix’ from; desktop photography with bath bombs, splashing fruit and smoke trails; the print mounting process; print sizing; and how the SLR works, its settings and its use with filters and flash. Bring your camera and flash.

Bob is a highly respected judge and a member of the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union’s Executive Committee. Although Bob’s presentation is primarily aimed at achieving better results in photographic competitions, his advice will be equally applicable to those simply wishing to improve their photographic skills.

30 October 2017 Speaker 2 - Justin Garner - ‘The Lighting behind the Image’

Justin is a Manchester-based freelance photographer who, interestingly, uses photography to connect with hard to reach groups and enable them to express themselves, gain transferable skills and develop self-esteem and confidence. Colin Yates and Ruth Lochrie will introduce members to the methods and techniques used in capturing light trails and ghosts in indoor and outdoor locations. Bring your camera, and tripod if you have one.

Neil took up photography in 2010 when he realized that his teenage sons didn’t need his full attention, his wife worked shifts and he was left with time on his hands. Today Neil is one of the most respected photographers and photographic tutors in the UK. Neil takes mono, long exposure photographs. His photography and post-processing are instantly recognisable and ooze quality.

Alf is a Preston based photographer with a passion for street photography. He is driven by a desire to find the exciting within the mundane and make images that tell the story of our times. Images that capture that fleeting moment, for most unseen or forgotten, that glance, that expression filled with feelings and emotions. Members will be intrigued to learn how Alf’s involvement in the world of street photography lends style to his portrait and wedding work and translates into a rich and varied portfolio of striking and memorable images. 

Alf’s presentation will provide members with an introduction to street photography, by defining street photography and explaining what makes an interesting street image. He will provide hints and tips on how to explore, create and take candid images on the street. He will describe the cameras, lenses, and settings he uses and share with members examples of his photography from around the UK and Europe.

1 October 2018 - Speaker 2 - Bob Dennis - Entering External Competition

Bob Dennis, CPAGB,APAGB,AFIAP,BPE4* is a highly respected photographer and an international and National PAGB listed Judge. Bob will select images from the L&CPU portfolio, which will be on display, discuss their merits and the reasons they scored well. He will then look at a number of images which scored highly in our internal competitions over the last 2 seasons, identify their strengths and ideas for possible development and indicate how they might perform in external competition. Bob will bring his presentation to an end with images from the Bebington Salon which will reinforce his earlier comments and advice.

Terry is a working freelance photographer from Liverpool, working in sport editorial, PR, promotions and is a Sony Europe Imaging Ambassador as well as a Fotospeed Ambassador and a Rotolight 'Master of Light’. He has three Fellowships and is regularly invited to judge photographic competitions and act as a selector for international photography exhibitions. His work has been exhibited in over of 25 countries, receiving over 240 international awards since 2012, and photographer of the year awards in 2014,2015,2016 and 2017. 
Terry’s presentation will provide members with an insight into his photography and his use of Sony mirrorless cameras, explaining the technological advancements and innovations in Sony, Full Frame, mirrorless cameras and how these have improved his photographic workflow. Terry will share with members his distinction work and personal projects, and explain how the pictures were taken. 

Terry will be accompanied by Sony UK and its full range of Alpha series, Full Frame, mirrorless cameras and lenses which members will be invited to handle and try if they wish. Sony will also have a digital imaging expert on site to answer any questions.

Adrian has been capturing images on an iPhone since 2012 and today it takes preference over his DSLR. Adrian will demonstrate the potential to capture and edit photos on a mobile device and take mobile photography from ordinary to extraordinary both onscreen and in print. Using his images as a visual narrative, he will cover the technical and conceptual aspects of his work, sharing the inspirations and influences that shape his creative approach. He will explain the advanced workflow he uses to get the best out of the iPhone camera and demonstrate advanced editing techniques using the very latest apps. He will also include a session on creating photo art.  Although Adrian’s presentation will centre on his iPhone work, other smartphone users will learn that his techniques and the apps he uses can be applied to other mobile devices.

Nick and Caroline Robertson-Brown are a dynamic husband and wife team of underwater photographers, photo-journalists and authors. They both have honours degrees from Manchester University in Environmental Biology and Biology respectively. Nick is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. They will introduce members to the particular challenges of taking images underwater, demonstrate the equipment they use, and share some of their award-winning images from the UK and around the world.

Stephen has amassed a rich portfolio of powerful and moody landscape and seascape images using both film and digital formats, flipped lens, pinhole, single lens reflex and twin lens reflex cameras. He will introduce members to his cameras, his simple but measured workflow, and his exceptional portfolio of black and white, fine art, minimalist images. 

 Inspired by the multiple image, photographic work of the artist, David Hockney, Stephen also constructs composite, cubist images of Liverpool’s distinctive townscape. Stephen’s work has featured in local and national newspapers and photography magazines as well as on tv. It will excite and inspire.
